Cops: Jersey City man nabbed for shoplifting $350 of medicine

A Jersey City man with three outstanding warrants totaling more than $10,000 was arrested Monday after attempting to sneak off with more than $350 worth of pain medication from a Bayonne convenience store, reports said.
According to police, Dennis Marble, 38, was caught stealing over 30 bottles of Advil, Tylenol and other pain medication at the Rite Aid on Broadway and 22nd Street at about 8:30 p.m.

City says campaign signs must come down

Public Works Director Gary Chmielewski is asking residential and business property owners to take down any election signs that are still posted on their buildings.
The local zoning code requires election signs to be removed by two weeks after the completion of an election. The regulation applies to residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
"Anyone wishing to keep signs for personal collections should bring them inside now," Chmielewski said.

Conditions have deteriorated at 159 West 2nd Street and many of the residents are fed up.With broken elevators, unwashed floors, and stairwells sometimes littered with human feces, a building for seniors and disabled tenants managed by the Bayonne Housing Authority has fallen into disrepair, according to several residents.
"To be blunt, we're getting treated like animals," said resident Betty Baez, one of a 100 elderly and/or disabled residents of the eight-story 159 W. Second St. building.

David Somers has done it again.
The eighth-grader from School 14 won the annual Bayonne School District Spelling Bee for grades 6 to 8 last night at the Washington Community School. It marks the third year in a row that the 13-year-old captured the Bee.

The Bayonne Quilt Club meets every Wednesday from noon to 2:45 p.m. on the second floor of the Fourth Street Senior Center, Fourth Street and Story Court, Bayonne.
New members are welcome and no quilting experience is required.
