    Two Days for Nov. 29-30

    Marvel

The Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows will take you on a flight of fancy, with unique anthropomorphic snowflakes and dazzling designer gowns adorned with Swarovski crystals. (Don't worry; the prices will bring back down to earth.)

This year, the department store's famed windows took inspiration from a new children's holiday book, "A Flake Like Mike," which celebrates individuality. (Saks is donating $2 from the sale of every book at its stores and online to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.) The windows also feature specially-commissioned gowns embroidered with more than a thousand types of crystals by the likes of Bill Blass, Carolina Herrerra, Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen and Oscar de la Renta.

    Indulge

    Robert Rey

Robert Rey, the telefriendly plastic surgeon better know as "Dr. 90210," will be at Nordstrom at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday to launch his new skin care line, Sensual Solutions.

Rey believes plastic surgery is the last choice to consider, and why not, if ladies are willing to spend $150 on his "Let Me Introduce You" starter kit first? The kit includes an oxygenating cleanser, a eye wrinkle filler and an instant wrinkle eraser, a lip plumper and an anti-aging lift cream.

But he's not a greedy guy -- he did offer up some inexpensive, even free tips to look younger without the need for $50 creams.

    * First off, stop drinking caffeine, which creates cellulite and stops the body from absorbing vitamins.

    * Skip ice cream, bread and pasta and focus on food that either moved on land or water or swayed from a tree: turkey, chicken, fish, apples, corn and other fruits and veggies.

    * Sleep on two or three or pillows because lying flat will make the blood vessels in your face pop.

    Two Days for Nov. 15-16

    by Star-Ledger Features
    Friday November 14, 2008, 12:00 AM

    Rock on

When the mighty Grand Funk Railroad stopped at the Community Theatre in Morristown last January, they were paired with a young opening act. Really young.

Kids between the ages of 7 and 17 took the stage as the ultimate jam band, playing loud classics they'd learned as students at the Paul Green School of Rock. Founded in Philly, the youth music program has chapters throughout the Garden State.

The School of Rock returns to the Community Theatre Sunday, this time as headliner. The 3 p.m. performance will feature youngsters from the school's six Jersey branches, along with guests, including Napoleon Murphy Brock (Frank Zappa) and Anton Fig (David Letterman band).

Tickets, priced $15, are on sale via phone (973) 539-8008 and online mayoarts.org. The Community Theatre at Mayo Center for the Performing Arts is at 100 South St.

    Nature

American Museum of Natural History's Butterfly Conservatory

The butterflies have disappeared from our gardens with the arrival of cooler weather, but there is no reason you can't still enjoy their beauty.

The American Museum of Natural History has opened its annual exhibit "The Butterfly Conservatory: Tropical Butterflies Alive in Winter" at the museum at Central Park West and 79th Street, New York. Walk inside a 1,200-square-foot vivarium full of blooming tropical flowers, lush green vegetation and summer humidity. You may want to take off your coat.

Orange Julias, black and white-striped zebra longwings and large blue Morpho butterflies flutter from flower to flower, stopping to rest on fruit or maybe even your shoulder. The exhibit, now in its 11th year, is on view through May 25, 2009.

Admission is timed and reservations are recommended, since the exhibit is so popular. Tickets are $24; $18 for seniors and students, and $14 for children. For reservations, visit amnh.org or call (212) 769-5200.
