Consider it a good problem, but a problem no less. The New York Giants stand four deep (perhaps even five) in the backfield, which at least confirms they won't be on the market anytime soon for a running back. Ben Reiter, a writer at Sports Illustrated, recently provided a Giants camp rundown at SI.com. In Reiters "Three Observations", he writes this of the secondary:
I spent several moments observing what I assumed to be the Giants' linebacking corps huddled up next to the practice field -- until I realized the group was actually the team's secondary. These guys are monsters (only cornerback Sam Madison is under 6 feet), but the most physically impressive of them all is safety Kenny Phillips, the team's first-round pick out of Miami.

The Brett Favre saga -- which does nothing but get stranger and stranger nearly every day -- doesn't appear to be the only headache for the Green Bay Packers this summer.

Running back Ryan Grant, a Giant fifth-stringer this time a year ago but went on to rush for 956 yards and eight touchdowns as the Packers' starter, isn't pleased with how talks with Green Bay executives about a long-term contract are going.

Jeremy Shockey on crutches before Super Bowl XLII.
The Jeremy Shockey trade to the Saints leaves the loyal Giants fan bloggers with plenty to discuss.

Fan blog Big Blue View shows its stance on the issue, even offering a small piece of recycling advice:

If you are bumming today because you own a No. 80 New York Giants jersey and you don't know what to do with it, all I can say is 'sorry.' Maybe you can cut it up and use it for rags.

Does the Jeremy Shockey trade help or hurt the NY Giants?

Jeremy Shockey to the Saints - beneficial for the Giants?
The Giants' trade of Jeremy Shockey to the Saints has sparked a debate: Will the Giants be better without him?

Giants team President John Mara discusses the buildup to the trade in today's Star-Ledger:

"Jeremy brought great energy to the game every time he stepped on the field," Mara said. "He had a close relationship with my father from the time we drafted him, and I had a couple of long conversations with Jeremy this spring and summer. From those conversations, it was apparent to me that a fresh start was the best thing for us and for Jeremy."
The Star-Ledger has a lot more Jeremy Shockey trade analysis here so check it out for more insight into what went into the deal.

Best Game, Best Play, and Best Upset all go to the NY Giants

Who would think Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owens would hand over a piece of hardware to the conference rival Giants? Or that Eli Manning would actually crack a joke about his offense line?

During last night's airing of the 2008 ESPYs on ESPN hosted by pop icon Justin Timberlake, the Giants received three awards and Manning showed he could dish out jokes as quick as Timberlake dished a few out about him. To make winning an award even sweeter, Owens handed over the "Best Game" ESPY to Manning and the Giants for their win in Super Bowl XLII.

YouTube has clips of two of the three awards won by the Giants:
    Best Game
    Best Upset

ESPN will re-air the show five times this upcoming week according to TVGuide.com.
