The wine tasting will be next Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. The wines selected will be Robert Mondavi Riesling, Robert Mondavi Muscato, Sabazio Rosso di Montepulciano and Tormaresca Torcicoda Primitivo.

A representative from the distributor of Robert Mondavi, Kim Dewolff, will be on hand to explain the history of each of the wines.

Morning Rush: Tax rallies across the nation and a rise in Hudson County's homicides

Like in Hoboken, New Hampshire residents call for a cap on their property taxes and for a reassessment of property values there. (However, unlike in Hoboken, we're guessing their taxes didn't rise 47 percent in one year alone.)

The number of homicides in Hudson County rose in 2008 compared to 2007. In Hoboken, one person was murdered in 2008.

It would seem Yo La Tenga's show at Maxwell's is sold out. Their show, "The 8 Nights of Hannukah", has included surprise guests of David Cross of Arrested Development and Ray Davies of the Kinks in the past. No word on if there will be any big names at tonight's show.

Are you one of the lucky ones who got tickets? Yo La Tengo's eight-nights-of-Hanukkah concert kicks off tonight at Maxwell's in Hoboken.

Yo La Tengo plays through Dec. 28 for each of the eight nights of Hanukkah. In past years, surprise guests like David Cross, of "Arrested Development," Ronnie Spector, David Byrne and the Kinks' Ray Davies have shown up and joined the band on stage.

Come Caroling at the Rock Club! A traditional Nativity Play without having to dress for church! Come join the cast of shepherds and angels and innkeepers in singing all the traditional carols (lyrics provided!).

If you're not totally feeling the holiday cheer, here's a reminder to see David Sedaris' dark, witty take on the holidays, "SantaLand Diaries."

"SantaLand Diaries" is Sedaris' account of his days working as Crumpet the Elf at Macy's and is being presented by Mile Square Theatre. The one-man show is running through December 21 at Shades bar and restaurant at the Monroe Center (the bar will be open, so you can get a drink while you watch the show).

It's old school funk and soul night at Gaslight. I'm not entirely sure what that entails, but the margaritas and mojitos are half price, so it sounds promising.

What's going on tonight in Hoboken?

Tskdesign via flickr cc license applies Going out in Hoboken? The Dubliner has $3.50 Coronas, $3 Coors Light and $2 Yuenglings 'till 9.

Starting at 5 p.m. and going until about 9, there is a Shop/Drink/Jam event going on at Shades in the Monroe Center. Purple Haze Fashion, a "traveling boutique" and online store (they've had delays opening an actual store in Hoboken) will be at Shades, selling their wares.

Music, a full bar and a party will follow. There will be free pampering from the newly opened Pleasant Road Spa at the Monroe Center, plus the opportunity to meet a personal stylist, make-up consultant and health coach makeover team. There is no cover to attend the event.
