Yesterday, World AIDS Day, there were speeches and proclamations to mark the event, banners and signs demanding immediate attention to the pandemic.

The second-most talked- about election result from earlier this month was probably California's Proposition 8. Its approval amends that state's constitution to limit marriage to one man and one woman, knocking for a loop the 20,000 or so couples who wed during the few months it was legal to do so in California.

HIT: The respect and warm feelings for Princeton Township Mayor Phyllis Marchand that led to a standing ovation Monday at her last meeting following more than 20 years on the township committee. Mayor Marchand's last day in office will be tomorrow.

Trenton Mayor Douglas H. Palmer has it exactly right.

Dr. Nancy Snyderman has been chosen this year's recipient of the Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award from Womanspace Inc. for her efforts to help individuals improve their lives.
