Galloway man indicted in murder case that left 2 dead, 1 injured

MAYS LANDING -- A Galloway Township man was indicted Wednesday in the killing of his mother and niece and the attempted murder of a second niece, the Press of Atlantic City is reporting.
Ronald Weed, 41, stands accused of killing his 65-year-old mother, Loretta Weed, a 12-year-old niece, Kimberly McCarten and attacking her sister Courtney, also 12, in Loretta Weed's home in the 400 block of South Nectar Avenue.
Fugitives given chance to surrender safely

CAMDEN -- Rodney Campbell could be the poster child for the allure of the fugitive safe surrender program.
Five years ago, Campbell was pulled over while driving without a license. Numerous circumstances didn't allow Campbell to take care of the charges, which eventually became a warrant.
Once a Camden resident, Campbell moved to the city of Rocky Mount, N.C., but the problems from his time in New Jersey continued to haunt him.

CAMDEN - A Jamaican man pleaded guilty Wednesday for his leadership role in a group that involving a Swedesboro man and ran a bi-coastal marijuana trafficking and money laundering ring that originated in California and expanded in to at least six other states, U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Christie announced.
Richard Lawson, 42, who resided in San Diego and Tijuana, Mexico, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to launder the proceeds of drug trafficking.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Online dating service eHarmony is adding another personality trait to its 29 dimensions of computability.
The California-based company will begin providing same-sex matches under as part of a settlement with New Jersey's Civil Rights Division.

MILLVILLE -- In a $60,000 per year deal between the Cumberland County Board of Health and the Millville Housing Authority, the county health department is set to make the move to the MHA's former headquarters as soon as next month.
The two entities signed the 5-year lease on Tuesday with the understanding that the department of health would take ownership of the nearly 7,000-square-foot space at 309 Buck St. on Dec. 1.

MAYS LANDING, N.J. - Dramatic increases in the funding level for the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) should help thousands of struggling families across southern New Jersey pay their heating bills this winter.
LIHEAP is a block grant program which assists low-income households - both homeowners and renters - with their energy bills. The application period is through March 31, 2009.
No one injured in Millville fire

Firefighters continue to fight stubborn flames from inside the duplex in the 100 block of North.3rd Street in Millville Wednesday. MILLVILLE -- Firefighters quickly contained a fire this afternoon in a vacant house at the corner of North 3rd and Pine streets.
No one was reported injured in the blaze, the cause of which remains under investigation.
Firefighters remain on the scene at this hour.
Updates will be posted as they become available.
Wife killed in early morning Woodbury fire

Flames leap from house in the 100 block of Delaware Street in Woodbury early Wednesday. A local pediatrician was seriously injured making his escape from the fire, but his wife died in the blaze.

WOODBURY -- The wife of a well-respected pediatrician, 55-year-old Nancy Epple died in an early morning house fire that swept through the top two stories of their Victorian home on Delaware Street here.
Lawrence Epple, a pediatrician who practices in Woodbury Heights and Elmer and chairman of the Pediatrics Department at Underwood-Memorial Hospital was taken to Cooper Universit Hospital's Trauma Center, where he in critical condition.
There are reports that Dr. Epple suffered cardiac arrest and was revived before being sent to Cooper.
Dr. Epple, 55, was injured when he and an officer trying to rescue him from a second-story window fell from a ladder that had been up against the house.
