Heard from Cuz Buzz that my 5 a.m. rambling made absolutely no sense whatever. Since he has been so helpful and supportive while I've drifted in and out of consciousness, I thought I'd better explain:
-- I'm still taking phenytoin and my level is still above toxic, though it's 25 percent lower than it was a month ago. I'm still experiencing the same side effects. Evidence: This morning's post.
--My neurodoc is reducing that dosage yet again, though we must be very careful in doing so because if we go too far too fast, I'll start having seizures.
--Today I start taking yet another anticonvulsant (oxcarbazepine). This is what I'll eventually be on after my hospitalization. So while I'm still taking phenytoin, they're introducing the new drug ("Hey, phenytoin, pleased to meet you. I'm oxcarbazepine. You can call me Ox"). Who the hell knows what will happen during this six-week period.
--When that six-week period is over, I'll be in Princeton Medical Center for three days (Jan. 5-7; book your visiting time now) hooked up round-the-clock to an EEG. On the day I enter, I'll stop taking phenytoin for the first time in 22 years and will go all-out on the Ox.
--When that three-day hospital stay is over, I'll be home for two weeks. I'll be unable to drive or ride (not that I do much of either these days) for at least a month, maybe two.
--When that month-to-two-month period is over, I should be back to abnormal
